Volunteer Opportunities

Office
We are seeking volunteers to assist with office projects at the PADRES Administrative office located in Toluca Lake, CA. This is a great opportunity for those who can give a few hours during the day to volunteer while learning the inner workings of an office environment. Assistance is needed between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm.

Stand for HOPE 5K
Volunteer support is needed for our annual Stand for HOPE 5K Run/Walk taking place on [NO SPECIFIC DATE] at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Help is needed with set up, registration, Esperanza’s Village, and distributing water along the course.

Annual Family Picnic and Carnival
Help us kick off childhood cancer awareness month by taking part in our biggest family event of the year! Over 5,000 participants take part in this annual tradition at Whittier Narrows Regional Park. Volunteer assistance is needed with set up, assisting in game booths, grilling and serving food, playing sports with kids and teens, participate in arts and crafts, and help with overall activities throughout the day.  This is a perfect opportunity for volunteer groups. Annual Holiday Posada
Certainly a volunteer favorite, our Annual Holiday Posada brings the magic of the Holiday Season to our children and families! Volunteers take part in setting up and decorating, arts and crafts, serving food, family games, family registration, and toy distribution. Early registration is encouraged at this event, fills up quickly. Various shifts are available.

Esperanza’s Roadies
Volunteers are being recruited to become an integral part of our family events by helping with the loading and setting up of our larger family events. These events include our Spring Celebration in April, 5K Run Walk in June, our Family Picnic in August, and the Holiday Posada in December.  Roadies should be able to safely lift heavy objects and assist with the loading and unloading of trucks for our family events.

To register for an event you must pre-register for any PADRES event by contacting our Volunteer Manager. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation with details and instructions. Please note that under no circumstances will walk-ups or registrations the day of an event be allowed. Due to liability issues, all volunteers must be at least 16 years of age or older, unless otherwise noted.

Orientation
Due to a new policy, all new PADRES volunteers will be asked to participate in a one-hour volunteer orientation and training. The orientation will include an overview of all PADRES' services and programs and will prepare you to work directly with PADRES families. While new volunteers can still participate in family events and activities, all new volunteers have 12 months to complete an orientation session in order to be considered active volunteers.

Volunteer orientations are scheduled to take place at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles on May 19th, July 14th, September 8th, and November 10th, 2014.  You must contact our Volunteer Manager to sign up for the orientation.  Can we just put “Volunteer Orientations are scheduled on a quarterly basis, please contact our Volunteer Manager for more information and dates

We truly thank you for all your hard work and support and hope that you can give a little of your time to those affected by childhood cancer. Our mission to improve the lives of children with cancer cannot be accomplished without the support of our amazing volunteers!
