Magdalena was diagnosed with leukemia at the young age of three. Her family found support in PADRES and today is an amazing young adult, she gives back to PADRES as a Survivor Volunteer who not only demonstrates dedication and commitment but what PADRES stands for…HOPE.

  • The Vasquez Family

2010 Volunteer Family of the Year

The Family Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to the Vasquez Family who have dedicated their efforts in providing HOPE to the families we serve.  Bertha Galvan first came to PADRES in 2003 when her son Jonathan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. While receiving support from PADRES, Bertha and Jonathan quickly found within themselves the need to give back and volunteer at various events.  The entire family quickly became dedicated volunteers. Sadly, Jonathan lost his courageous battle with cancer in March 2009. Bertha returned to PADRES soon after the loss of her son and dedicated her service in his honor and shared with us that giving back to PADRES was not only something Jonathan wished for but was passionate about. PADRES remains extremely grateful to the Vasquez Family for sharing their service and their strength to our entire organization.
