EVA LONGORIA PARKER LEVERAGES PARTNERSHIP TO RAISE MONEY AND CREATE AWARENESS FOR
CHILDREN WITH CANCER AND THEIR FAMILIES
Padres Contra El Cancer
Receives $25,000 from Microsoft Corp. and National Commercial Spot on NCLR's
2006 ALMA Awards
LOS ANGELES, CA – June 1, 2006 – As the National Spokesperson for
PADRES Contra El Cáncer (PADRES), a non-profit organization committed to
improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their
families, Eva Longoria Parker has successfully leveraged her corporate partnerships to
raise money and create awareness for the childhood cancer organization.
Recently, Longoria negotiated a $25,000.00 contribution from Microsoft Corp. for
her participation in the company’s CelebFavorites.com Web site that pinpoints
the favorite haunts of eight of the world’s top athletes and entertainers.
Longoria used the site to highlight her favorite restaurants, hotels, clubs,
shops, museums or places to hang out in her hometown of San Antonio.
On June 5th, ABC will broadcast the NCLR’s 2006 ALMA Awards, which honor
outstanding Latino artistic achievement in television, film, and music and the
enhancement of the Latino image in the entertainment industry. As the show’s
producer and host, Longoria secured a national commercial spot for PADRES which
encourages funding support for PADRES and brings national awareness to the
non-profit organization. Throughout the awards, Longoria prominently wears
PADRES’ Yo Soy Esperanza wristband in support of the organization.
“PADRES could never have asked for a more dedicated individual to represent our
organization,” said Michael Velázquez, CEO of PADRES. “Actions truly speak
louder than words and in Eva’s case, her support and commitment to the families
we serve is evident in everything she does. We are so lucky to have Eva as part
of our family.”
In December, Longoria also donated her episodic fees from a Desperate Housewives
clip show to PADRES.
“During my last hospital visit, I spoke to many of the same kids who were part
of the program when I first started working with PADRES,” said Longoria. “I’m
delighted to see that they are now beating cancer and if my involvement with
PADRES will provide the organization with the necessary funding to help even
more kids, then I know that others will have the same opportunity to overcome
the disease.”
